Architectural Technology GMIT virtual student exhibition, awards and graduation in 2020


In GMIT, the Architectural Technology programme board created a virtual exhibition of students work, owing to the global pandemic and remote teaching required from March 2020 on.

While it was a turbulent year, other student initiatives included:

Moy Materials presented three of our final year Architectural Technology students with the MOY Bursary. The overall winner received a bursary of €1,500, with second and third prize awards also graciously received

A fourth year Architectural Technology student was the winner of the BIM 360 Excellence award sponsored by Autodesk Education and the winner of the BIM Futures Competition hosted in the Department of Building and Civil Engineering

A fourth year Architectural Technology student was the winner of the GMIT memorial garden design competition

JJ Rhattigans (Level 7) and RPS Group (Level 8) presented awards for best students as part of the virtual graduation ceremony

A multidisciplinary team from GMIT won the Chartered Institute of Building Student Challenge Competition with representation from fourth year Architectural Technology in the winning team

After the virtual graduation ceremony, Neil Anderson was awarded the inaugural CIAT Outstanding Graduating Student Award from GMIT


Neil Anderson, BSc Hons in Architectural Technology, 2020 Graduate, Winner of the CIAT Outstanding Graduating Student. Neil works as an Architectural Technologist/BIM Coordinator for Kevin Jackson Architects. Neil is currently involved in a BIM Level 2 project alongside another Architectural firm, in the development of a 96-bed acute ward block extension to UHL, specialising on the interfaces between the new and the existing buildings at UHL



The programme board are delighted to have received full accreditation of the BSc (Ord) and (Hons) in Architectural Technology programmes from the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technology. The official certificate will be presented to programme board members at the AT Awards event in 2021
