Modules within the Higher Diploma in Engineering in Building Information Modelling (BIM) first began between GMIT and RPS in 2013 in response to upskilling staff requirements at RPS Engineering in the area of BIM. The level 8 Higher Diploma in Engineering in BIM is now an established multi-award winning programme delivering upskilling needs to professionals throughout the west of Ireland and further afield.

In 2017, the Irish Construction Industry Awards recognised the GMIT-RPS innovative outreach approach for BIM upskilling and collaboration. The team won the 'Excellence in Education & Training Award' on May 9th, 2017. For more information, click here.
A further ‘Business Collaboration Award' was presented to the team at the 2017 Education Awards on May 25th, 2017. For more information, click here.
Yet another award was afforded to the team in March 2018, which was the ‘Excellence in Education and Training’ Award as part of the 2018 Human Resource Leadership and Management Awards in Dublin. For more information, click here and here.
Subsequently, two more awards were won by GMIT and RPS. The Disciplinary Excellence in Learning, Teaching and Assessment Award (DELTA Award) in the Engineering / Construction category was awarded for using a collaborative academic-industry reciprocal learning framework to establish GMIT as an international leader in BIM education and campus management. The same team, two days later, were awarded the Third Level Course – Postgraduate, Special Purpose or Distance Learning Award at the Irish Construction Excellence Awards (ICE Awards).
